ECHOES FROM THE EAST When after 35 years of uninterrupted leadership, Michel Plasson left the Capitole de Toulouse Orchestra in 2003 some doubts were raised about its future. But these doubts did not last long. The young Ossetian conductor Tugan Sokhiev took over in 2005 (he became the titular head in 2008) and he rapidly showed his true worth. Now firmly consolidated in his job, he visits Granada for the first time; his first programme consists of works from the best known Romantic repertoire. Schumann?s outstanding Piano Concerto will feature Javier Perianes from Huelva as soloist and will be followed by two works of enormous evocative power: Dvoř?k?s Carnival overture reflects feelings of the most exalted human passion, and Rimski-Korsakov?s Scheherazade is a magical and enchanting vision of the East.
