Last Wills

In his second concert, Tarmo Peltokoski's will be leading one of the most prestigious orchestras in France, the Capitole de Toulouse, with a fascinating program. Beginning in comedy mode, with the overture that Wagner wrote for The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, one of his most widespread symphonic works, then he will present us with two authentic artistic and living wills. In the Four Last Lieders by Richard Strauss –which will be sung by the young Parisian soprano Elsa Dreisig– not only does the artistic career of a formidable composer come to an end, but also an entire genre, that of romantic lied, as well as an era, that of Romanticism itself, which had been stretched further than what had been imaginably possible. With Bruckner's Ninth, which will close a Festival that has opened with another great Brucknerian symphony, the Fifth, he culminates one of the great symphonic cycles of the entire romantic universe, and he does so in a self-referential way, through quotes from other works of the author, but also incomplete, since the fourth –and last– movement had only been sketched.
